CONCERT PHOTOGRAPHY : ROCHESTER INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL

Friends. If you love live concert photography, this post is for you!  For the sixth consecutive year, I have had the privilege of serving what has grown to be one of the biggest and most successful Jazz Festivals in all of the land.  The 15th Annual Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival was amongst the biggest and brightest of them all.  The 9 day festival drew over 250,000 music fans and over 300 musical acts, spread out over 15 venues – all which electrified our City and gave it the feel, hustle and bustle of a major Metropolis. Headlining concert acts ranged from hip hop artists like Erykah Badu to old school hippies like Bruce Hornsby, amidst Jazz greats that included Chick Corea, Chris Botti and up and coming 13 year old Joey Alexander all the way on through crowd favorites Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, Mango Fishtrap, Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers and Fitz & The Tantrums.

As is always the case, it’s the names that you never heard of – or may have heard in passing – that leave the biggest impact.  Names like Judith Hill, Kandace Spring, Elio Villafranca…to name a few. This post is intended to show a smattering of some of the access that I was granted, and imagery that came of it.

Hats off to the entire Xerox International Jazz Festival family, from producers John Nugent & Marc Iacona all the way on down.  It was a killer event this year.  I’d like to think that we all did Rochester good.  Special thanks to the Dalmath Group for having me on the photo team again this year.  It is an honor to be associated with this most prestigious event.

On with the show:
